Welcome to Basswood Folk Arts! We are a group of folk artists and folk arts lovers based in Oswego, NY.

Oswego is a wonderful history-filled town at the mouth of the Oswego River in southeast corner of Lake Ontario. It has solo crafters and artists, lots of small crafting groups, a fine arts association, a passionate community theater group, a music hall with a fabulous traditional music line up, an amazing quilt shop, a beautiful artist cooperative shop, and a state university with a fantastic arts program. What it doesn’t have is a place for crafters to easily meet or for the individual groups to come together, share ideas, and create a folk arts community. We’d like to fix that.

We are starting out with two goals:

Our first is to see if our community would like to attend a folk arts festival in September 2024- and if so, to host that festival.

The second is to create a four season, dedicated space for creating, learning, and sharing.

More on those goals in later blogs!

Craft on, fellow folkies,

Figurine from Sedona Pottery. The artist writes that goats symbolize new endeavors and adventures. Perfect mascot for today!
